AN ELDERLY man has died in a house fire in Guildford.
Firefighters were called to Ludlow Road, Guildford in the early hours of Tuesday (March 12).
Five fire crews from Guildford and Godalming were called to a semi detached property in Ludlow Road shortly after 1am on Tuesday (March 12).A South East Coast Ambulance (SECAMB) and a paramedics car attended but the man was declared dead at the scene.
Firefighters in full breaking apparatus found smoke coming from airing cupboard, however no source of ignition was found.
Surrey Fire and Rescue said a further breathing apparatus crew was dispatched to the adjoining property next door where one male casualty, apparently deceased, was found. The fire was quickly extinguished and a further search of the property was carried out.
An investigation has been in progress to ascertain the cause.
A SECAMB spokesman said: "Sadly one person was pronounced dead at the scene and I believe other patients travelled to hospital to be checked over.
"Our thoughts are with the family of the man who died."
