G Live has been officially opened by royalty. The entertainment venue opened last autumn but the Duke of Kent unveiled a plaque at the venue this week to mark its official launch.

Guildford Borough Council has said that it has welcomed 35,000 visitors to the venue and that it has already played host to 14 sell-out shows.

Guildford mayor, Councillor Terence Patrick, who was at the ceremony, said that G Live was a "building for the 21st century".

In the five months since it's been open, G Live has played host to a wide variety of entertainment from musicals such as Blood Brothers and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat to comedians such as Ed Byrne and Reginald D Hunter. Just last week they also hosted their first commercial rock concert with the arrival of the Kaiser Chiefs.

The coming months sees yet more high-profile bookings including rock band Thin Lizzy and Irish comedian Dara O'Braian.

What do you think? Have you been to G Live? Do you think that it's succeeding as an entertainment venue or could it be doing more? Let us know your thoughts with a comment.
