You might have noticed that in Guildford there are a couple of banners on the High Street asking 'Who needs housing?' That's because the Guildford Borough Council are asking residents and workers in Guildford to add their opinions to a new consultation.

The Council are seeking opinions from the public to determine the amount of new housing that needs to be developed in the borough in the future. They will also present five scenarios to anyone that takes part and will ask them to select which ones they support.

They have also provided some documents online that will assist anyone who fills in a response form, including case studies, a topic paper and an F.A.Q.

Users have the choice of either using an online form or a print-out form that can be e-mailed back to the Council. The deadline for all responses to the consultation is the 8th July.

In the past, an initial Sustainability Appraisal has recommended plans that would:

  •     Allow more affordable homes.
  •     Reduce poverty and social exclusion.
  •     Maintain high rates of economic activity and low rates of unemployment.
  •     Reducing levels of congestion and pollution.
Any future plans the Council look set to go up to the year 2030, so this consultation could help shape an important issue for the next couple of decades.

Will you be taking part in the consultation? What do you think of the plans being presented by the Council? What is the most important matter to you when it comes to the development of housing? Leave a comment below with your thoughts.
