Could Guildford be set for on-street parking policy changes?

There could be a change to on-street parking rules in Guildford following an immediate policy change from new Surrey County Council leader David Hodge.

David Hodge was appointed new leader of Surrey County Council earlier today (11th Oct)
The new leader spoke to a meeting of the full council earlier today and said that the countywide policy that was currently in place would be abolished and instead that the eleven local committees representing the county's borough and district areas would have the freedom to decide on their own policies.
"The county council's on-street parking policy has proved enormously unpopular. I believe we should be strong enough to recognise when we have got something wrong.
"That is why I can announce that the single countywide policy for on-street parking ends today.
"Local committees, working with boroughs and districts, are far better placed to make these decisions.
"From today local committees will have the freedom to decide without interference from us."
No plans have yet been announced regarding whether on-street parking rules will be changed in the future.
David Hodge replaces the former leader of SCC, Dr Andrew Povey, who stepped down to persue business interests.
