A SHRINE of floral tributes has been left on the Guildford road where Jack Bates was fatally stabbed in the neck at the weekend.

Flowers, candles and messages from friends and loved ones are stacked at the edge of a police cordon in Roundhill Way where the 19-year-old died on Saturday night.

Shock and stunned silence following what police are treating as murder has turned to grief in the quiet residential street.

One neighbour, who did not wish to be named, said: "It's terrible. It's a nice neighbourhood around here, believe it or not, so for something like this to happen is shocking. It's very sad."

One roadside message, by Pixie, Lauren and Jon Lee, read: "R.I.P. little man, sleep well Angel, you're missed by so many people, you will never be forgotten."

Another said: "RIP Jake. Sleep tight Angel. Going to miss your cheeky face."

Friend Lauren Pilgrim said: "I love you and I'm going to miss you so much. I'll see you again one day but until then keep smiling down on us all."

And Leigh, Gavin and Mollie wrote: "Everyday you're in our thoughts. May the angels in heaven take you, but you'll stay in our hearts forever."

Messages have also been posted on Facebook and Twitter in tribute to the teenager.

* Liam Martin, 18, of Roundhill Way, appeared before magistrates at South West Surrey Magistrates Court today (September 25) charged with murder.

He was remanded in custody to appear at Guildford Crown Court on Thursday September 27.
