Music lovers in Guildford got an unexpected and welcome surprise this week when Laura Marling announced a show at the Guildford Cathedral this week.

The concert will take place on the 17th October with tickets going onsale from all reputable ticket sites at 10am tomorrow morning. It's part of a much-larger nationwide tour of cathedrals and historical buildings.

The folk star, who has been twice-Mercury nominated and won a Brit Award earlier this year, will be promoting her new album, A Creature I Don't Know, which is released in September. A song from that album called Sophia can currently be heard on YouTube.

It also forms part of Guildford Cathedral's events programme for the upcoming autumn, which features two Shakespeare plays on the lawn (A Midsummer Night's Dream and The Taming of the Shrew) and a series of art talks. A full programme can be found at their website.

This is another big announcement for an autumn filled with arts highlights as the town hopes to become an established part of the entertainment touring circuit with the opening of new venue G Live in September.

Will you be buying tickets tomorrow morning? Would you like more artists like Laura Marling playing in Guildford more often? Let us know your thoughts with a comment.
