Mark Cavendish, Britain's top cyclist and a major contender for Olympic success next year, will be racing in Guildford as part of the London-Surrey Cycle Classic.

Cavendish will be the star attraction of the Olympic test event
The event, which takes place on Sunday 14th August is a test event in preparation for the real Olympic race next year and will pass through other towns such as Woking, Weybridge and Byfleet among others.
Cavendish has recently had another successful Tour De France where he took home the overall green sprinters jersey. He won five stages at this year's event, which puts at 6th place on the all-time list for stage victories on 20.
"It is absolutely fantastic news that Britain's very own cycling superstar will be powering along Surrey's roads to test the route for next year's Olympic races," said Denise Saliagopoulos, Surrey County Council's Cabinet Member for Community Services and the 2012 Games.
"I'm sure Surrey fans will turn out in force to give the Manx Missile their support, just as they will next year when he goes for gold."
Guildford People will have more coverage of the London-Surrey Cycle Classic in the next couple of weeks or so.

ReportMark Cavendish is an absolute legend ~ a sporting superstar, the type of which Britain can be immensely proud. Cav is an inspirational character and just the sort our children should have as their 'hero'.
