Guildford Bucks National Crime Trends

The
number of reports of shoplifting from Guildford retailers fell over
the last year according to Surrey Police despite the national figure
rising. They credit this to a partnership between Surrey Police CCTV
operators and stores belonging to the Guildsafe radio Network
enabling a rapid response to suspicious incidents.
Guildsafe
is a local initiative who's aim is to reduce the levels of retail
crime affecting the town’s businesses, their staff, shoppers
and visitors. A number of services are available to members
including radio links with other members and the closed circuit
television system which operates from Guildford police station.
Overall
the Surrey Police Force performed well being only one of four forces
to receive a “good” grading in the overall categories: Local
Crime and Policing, Protection from Serious Harm and Confidence and
Satisfaction in the HMIC annual report.
They
improved on every aspect of crime prevention and managed an overall
cost saving of 3.5%. How this will change when the proposed cuts come
into force is a different matter.
Should
the budget for Policing be ringfenced? What do you think?
