PEOPLE in Guildford looking to learn something new are this month (September, 2012) being invited to a bar in the town to take part in a weekly Latin dance class.

Bar des Arts, which is located opposite the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre in Millbrook, will be hosting the Kizomba, Bachata and Zouk dance classes every Monday from September 17.

Gio Papas, who runs the dance company Latin Salsa, and is teaching the classes, said: “We are delighted to be returning to Bar des Arts to host a weekly dance event. Our first event at the bar, which took place in August, was a great success.

“We will teach a variety of dance classes to people of all ages and abilities every Monday from 7.45pm. Between 8pm and 9pm we will be holding a Bachata fun dance class, between 9pm and 10pm there will be Kizomba dancing and from 10pm until midnight people can enjoy freestyle dancing.”

Gio has been teaching all types of Latin dancing, including Salsa, Cha-cha-cha and Bachatango for more than 10 years.

During the classes he will be teaching Zouk dancing, a sensual two person dance with its roots originating from the French Caribbean and Bachata, a rhythmic free style dance.

Bar des Arts is a café by day and a wine and cocktail bar by night. A range of wine, beers, cocktails and soft drinks are available to purchase, along with sharing platters. The bar hosts a variety of events and exhibitions, including live music, dance performances, open mic nights and many more.

Sara Burks, Co-owner of Bar des Arts, said: “We are really looking forward to welcoming Gio back to the bar. His first event was a great hit and everyone who came along had a brilliant time learning a new skill so we’re thrilled he’s making this a weekly event.

“Tickets cost £8 and can be purchased by calling the bar on 01483 453227 or can be paid for on the evening. Gio will also turn DJ at the end of the night and play some of his favourite tracks.”
