THE DEPUTY Mayor of Guildford is this month (September, 2012) attending a coffee morning at Bar des Arts in support of Macmillan Cancer Support’s ‘World’s Biggest Coffee Morning’.

Deputy Mayor, Councillor Pauline Searle will be attending the coffee morning on Friday, September 28 from 9am until 12noon at Bar des Arts to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Sara Burks, Co-owner of Bar des Arts, said: “We are delighted that Cllr Searle will be attending our Macmillan coffee morning at the bar.

“Macmillan’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning takes place nationwide and we wanted to give people in Guildford the chance to join in. It is an extremely worthy cause and we hope that lots of people will come along to help us support the cause.

“During the morning we will be selling tea, coffee and cake with all proceeds going to the charity. We will also make a donation to the Deputy Mayor’s charity of choice, The Mayor of Guildford’s Local Distress Fund.”

The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning is Macmillan Cancer Support’s flagship event. Last year (2011), 51,000 people signed up to the coffee morning, raising a record £10million for the charity. This year Macmillan is hoping to raise even more money.

Charles Byrne, Head of Corporate Partnerships and Events at Macmillan Cancer Support, said: “We are very grateful for the support from Bar des Arts. There are more than two million people in the UK living with cancer and the funds raised from the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning will help support them.”

Macmillan Cancer Support improves the lives of people affected by cancer, providing practical, medical, emotional and financial support.

The Deputy Mayor will be attending The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning event at Bar des Arts on Friday, September 28 at 11am. The event takes place from 9am until 12noon.

Bar des Arts is a café by day and a wine and cocktail bar by night. A range of wine, beers, cocktails and soft drinks are available to purchase, along with sharing platters. The bar hosts a variety of events and exhibitions, including live music, dance performances, open mic nights and many more.
