Compose yourself for classical duo at Bar des Arts

CLASSICAL music lovers from Guildford are next month (April, 2013) invited to a bar in the town to see a classically trained musical duo perform.

The Zeitgeist Duo UK will be playing at Bar des Arts, which is located opposite the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre in Millbrook, on Wednesday, April 10 from 8pm.

Sara Burks, Co-owner of Bar des Arts, said: “Violin player Angelika Löw-Beer and pianist Marina Lieberman are both classically trained musicians and we are really looking forward to seeing them perform at the bar.

“This will be a unique night of contemporary performances and the girls will be playing a variety of songs. Their repertoire ranges from the classical and romantic music of Vivaldi and Chopin to unique arrangements of modern classics by Madonna and U2.”

Formed in 2003 in Germany, the duo has performed in concert halls and jazz clubs around the world, including the National Theatre in Berlin, The Bull’s Head in London and the National Arts Club in New York.

Twenty-five-year-old Angelika, who plays a Ceruti violin from 1882, has toured with the Young Euro Classics Orchester and has played at the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival.

She attended the Franz-Liszt School of Music in Weimar and is currently studying at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London.

Twenty-eight-year-old Marina began playing piano by ear when she was four-years-old.

She won the title of ‘Most Promising Young Pianist’ in Saint Petersburg, Russia in 1994 and has won the First Federal Prize of Germany and the Steinway Piano Competition in Munich. Marina also teaches regularly at the London Music Centre and EMI Music.

Sara added: “This is the perfect opportunity for people to come along to the bar and discover some extremely talented musicians. The duo will be playing a range of tracks that will suit everyone’s tastes and they will dazzle the audience with their repertoire of songs.”

Bar des Arts is a café by day and a wine and cocktail bar by night. A range of wine, beers, cocktails and soft drinks are available to purchase, along with tapas. The bar hosts a variety of events and exhibitions, including live music, dance performances, open mic nights and many more.
