CHRISTMAS shoppers in Guildford are being invited to a one day only pop-up shop launching at a bar in the town that has been inspired by the owners’ grandmother.
Online boutique Elsie & Fleur, named after the late Elsie Burks, will open a pop-up shop at Bar des Arts, which is co-owned by Elsie’s granddaughter Sara Burks, on November 23.
Sara, Co-Owner of Bar des Arts, which is located opposite the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre in Millbrook, said: “We’re thrilled to be hosting the pop-up shop at the bar. It is a fab idea and we think the products will really appeal to our dedicated customers.
“From 2pm until 5pm we’ll be offering two for one on glasses of champagne for people aged 18 and over.
“People who spend £10 or more at the bar will be able to bring their own wrapping paper and ribbons and we’ll wrap their gifts for free.”
Elsie, who was Rachel Doran, Director of Elsie & Fleur, and Sara’s grandmother was the partial inspiration for the boutique as she was a keen crafter in the days when it was essential to be able to make your own clothes, gifts and housewares.
Rachel said: “We launched our online boutique earlier in the year and it has been such a great success so we thought we would host one-off pop-up shops around the country. We decided to host the first one at Bar des Arts.
“The shop is a great opportunity for people to get some early Christmas shopping done as we stock a range of gifts perfect for the festive season.”
All of the products Elsie & Fleur will be selling on the day have been created with love by artisan crafters and makers based in the Westcountry.
Elsie & Fleur, which is based in Somerset, was born out of a desire for people to be able to buy items that are often unique but don’t carry a hefty price tag. All the products are being sold to support micro-businesses, run by kitchen table entrepreneurs and mumpreneurs, the economic lifeblood of Great Britain.
Bar des Arts is a café by day and a cocktail bar by night. A range of wine, beers, cocktails and soft drinks are available to purchase, along with meat or cheese platters. The bar hosts a variety of events and exhibitions, including live music, dance performances, open mic nights and many more.
The Elsie & Fleur pop-up shop will be open at Bar des Arts on Saturday, November 23 from 12noon until 5pm.
