GUILDFORD folk with a passion for poetry are next month (March, 2013) invited to see a selection of ‘funny’ performers at a bar in the town.
The poetry evening will take place at Bar des Arts, which is located opposite the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre in Millbrook, on Tuesday, March 19 from 7.30pm.
Sara Burks, Co-owner of Bar des Arts, said: “The theme of our next poetry evening is ‘March madness’ and we’re hoping lots of people come along to enjoy some poetry with a twist of humour.
“Special guest poet David Cooke, who has several published books including his latest, entitled ‘Work Horse’, will be performing a variety of his pieces on the night. Cheryl McLennan will also be entertaining the audience with some of her understated and surreal humour.
“We’re really pleased to be welcoming back Cathy Flower and her funny poems and songs and Thomas Thurman will be bringing along his dramatic and parodic poems for everyone to hear.”
In addition to the arranged performances, people from the audience are welcome to sign up to perform on the night. Artists should arrive early to secure a slot or they can email the organisers, Dónall Dempsey and Janice Windle on firstname.lastname@example.org.
Sara added: “Our poetry evenings are proving extremely popular and we have had lots of people coming along to read their poetry on the night. It truly is a different and fantastic evening with something to suit all tastes.
“We always look forward to hearing from new budding poets so if you know anyone with a passion for penning verse and would like to hear them on stage please let them know about our poetry evenings.”
Entry is free, but booking is advisable and can be done by calling the bar on 01483 453227.
