POETRY enthusiasts from Guildford are invited to a poetry and performance evening at a bar in the town this month (November, 2012).

Bar des Arts, which is located opposite the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre in Millbrook, will be hosting a poetry open mic night on Tuesday, November 20 from 7.30pm.

Sara Burks, Co-owner of Bar des Arts, said: “We are delighted to be holding another poetry evening at the bar and welcoming back poets Dónall Dempsey and Janice Windle to host the event.

“There will be five featured artists performing on the night. Mel Jones will be returning to the bar with her funny and sensual poems and songs and Will Hames will also be back with his whimsical poetry.

“Pauline Sewards will be performing some of her much loved lyrical stories and poems and Murray Shelmerdine will be giving us a few satirical songs.

“We will also be welcoming David Goo to the stage. He will be combining words and music into his performance.”

People wishing to perform at the event can email the organisers, Dónall and Janice on popuppoets@yahoo.co.uk or arrive at 7.15pm on the evening to book a slot.

Entry is free, but booking is advisable and can be done by calling the bar on 01483 453227. People who would like to perform on the evening should arrive early to secure a slot.

Bar des Arts is a café by day and a wine and cocktail bar by night. A range of wine, beers, cocktails and soft drinks are available to purchase, along with tapas. The bar hosts a variety of events and exhibitions, including live music, dance performances, open mic nights and many more.

The poetry evening will take place at Bar des Arts on Tuesday, November 20 from 7.30pm until 10pm.
