THE HOSTS of a regular poetry night in Guildford are this month (October, 2013) launching a new anthology of poems that have been performed at a bar in the town.
Janice Windle and Dónall Dempsey will be unveiling the book at Bar des Arts, which is located opposite the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre in Millbrook, on October 22 from 7pm.
Janice said: “Our poetry nights have been so successful during the past two years that we decided to put together a collection of poems, all of which have been performed on the Bar des Arts stage.
“The book, entitled The Pop Up Anthology – Spoken Word at the Bar des Arts, is a great collection of poetry and we feel extremely proud to have produced it. We hope all of the people who have performed during our events will feel the same.
“On the night we will be offering cut price editions of the book and we hope lots of people come along to purchase one.”
Forty-eight professional and semi-professional poets have contributed to the book, including A. F Harrold, Wendy Klein, Steve Pottinger and Cathy Flower, who have all performed at Bar des Arts’ poetry evenings in the past.
Sara Burks, Co-owner of the bar, said: “The book is a fabulous piece of memorabilia for anyone who has performed during the poetry nights at the bar.
“Janice and Dónall have done a great job with hosting the regular evenings and we have seen some extremely talented poets come through the doors. We are sure the poetry nights will continue to be a success in the future and hope there will be many more anthologies published.”
Entry on the night will be free. Booking is advisable and can be done by calling the bar on 01483 453227.
Anyone unable to attend the event can pick up a copy of the anthology at null
