ROSES are red, violets are blue…poets from Guildford are invited to share their love for the arts during a poetry performance evening at a bar in the town this month (February, 2013).
The event will take place at Bar des Arts, which is located opposite the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre in Millbrook, on Tuesday, February 19 from 7.30pm.
Sara Burks, Co-owner of Bar des Arts, said: “For those who missed out on Valentine’s Day, we thought it would be a great idea to hold a special love-themed spoken word evening on February 19.
“We are looking forward to welcoming back Mel Jones to the bar and hearing her soothing jazz singing, which will warm the hearts of our audience.
“Special guests Tom V & Friends will be performing a sequence from their Hip Hopera ‘Conversation’ and the Stokey Bard will be entertaining people with some rhythm and rhymes.”
During the evening there will also be two short plays performed by Claire Booker and Ernie Burns will be reciting his own poetry.
Sara added: “We are looking for people to take to the stage too and perform some of their own poetry works. People who would like to sign up should arrive early to secure a slot or they can email the organisers, Dónall Dempsey and Janice Windle on popupoets@gmail.com.”
Entry is free, but booking is advisable and can be done by calling the bar on 01483 453227.
Bar des Arts is a café by day and a wine and cocktail bar by night. A range of wine, beers, cocktails and soft drinks are available to purchase, along with tapas. The bar hosts a variety of events and exhibitions, including live music, dance performances, open mic nights and many more.
