Smileaid - Betsy's Gig is a one day festival taking place at The Tup in Guilford in aid of the charity The Smile Train who fund doctors and consultants from the West to work in the Third World performing corrective surgery on children born with cleft lips and palates.

Ever since my Goddaughter Betsy was born I have seen how hard life can be for children with cleft lips and palates. Fortunately Betsy has received amazing corrective surgery in the first two years of her life which means she will be able to live a happy, fulfilled normal life.

But for kids in the Third World it is a completely different story. Children live their lives in shame and isolation and suffer daily in pain are unable to eat or drink properly. They have no hope in having the things in life that we take for granted like going to school, being employed or becoming a husband or wife. It costs just £150 and takes only 45 minutes for a child to undergo corrective surgery through The Smile Train and for this small amount of money their lives are totally transformed forever. The Smile Train is one of the only charities in the world where 100% of the money you donate goes to the cause, no overheads.

Myself and Betsy’s family want children in the Third World to experience what Betsy has had done for her and so we have set up Smileaid to try and change as many children’s lives as we can in one day.

Smileaid is set to be an awesome event with the opportunity to see most of our local musical talent gracing one stage in one day!
