PASSIONATE dancers from Guildford can learn some salsa steps during a dance class at a bar in the town next month (October, 2013).
The second in a series of monthly salsa dance classes will be hosted by Julia Janikova at Bar des Arts on Tuesday, October 8 from 7.30pm.
Sara Burks, Co-owner of Bar des Arts, which is located opposite the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre in Millbrook, said: "The first dance class was a huge success and it was great to see people learning some salsa moves and putting them to the test during the Latin after party.
"Julia will be hosting the second dance class in the series so people can progress with their moves. Beginners are also welcome to come along even if they missed the first class."
The class will last one hour and people will be able to show off what they have learnt during a Latin party from 8.30pm.
Twenty-nine-year-old Julia started salsa dancing in 2006 and has learnt the different styles of the dance, including LA, Cuban and Cali style salsa.
She was a member of the Oxford University Salsa Team from September 2008 until June 2010 and was coached by top international dance teachers Giles and Rosa Eadle from Ignite Dance Company.
Salsa is a form of dance originating from the style of music, Cuban Son and Afro-Cuban dance.
While many styles of the dance have been developed, the basis of it remains a dancer changing his or her weight by stepping, while the upper body remains level.
The night will be sponsored by Abuelo Rum. Tickets for the dance classes will cost £5 per person and include a free rum cocktail for people over 18-years-old. Booking is essential and can be done by calling the bar on 01483 453227.
Bar des Arts is a café by day and a cocktail bar by night. A range of wine, beers, cocktails and soft drinks are available to purchase, along with meat or cheese platters. The bar hosts a variety of events and exhibitions, including live music, dance performances, open mic nights and many more.
The salsa dance class will take place at Bar des Arts on Tuesday, October 8 from 7.30pm.
