GUILDFORD folk with a passion for poetry are invited to a performance evening at a bar in the town this month (December, 2012).
Bar des Arts, which is located opposite the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre in Millbrook, will be hosting a poetry open mic night on Tuesday, December 11 from 7.30pm.
Sara Burks, Co-owner of Bar des Arts, said: “Our poetry and performance evenings are extremely popular and there is always some great new talent to discover.
“There will be three featured artists performing a variety of poetry readings and stories on the night. People are welcome to come along and sign up to perform if they’d like to share a poem with the audience.
“During the event Robert Auton will be performing a short version of ‘The Yellow Show’ and Jeremy Sallon will impress the audience with his off-centre observations on life and love.
“Raymond Blake will be offering his sardonic, humorous view of the modern world in poems that can surprise you with their blend of cynicism and innocent common sense.”
People wishing to perform at the event can email the organisers, Dónall Dempsey and Janice Windle on firstname.lastname@example.org or arrive at 7.15pm on the evening to book a slot.
Entry is free, but booking is advisable and can be done by calling the bar on 01483 453227. People who would like to perform should arrive early to secure a slot.
Bar des Arts is a café by day and a wine and cocktail bar by night. A range of wine, beers, cocktails and soft drinks are available to purchase, along with tapas. The bar hosts a variety of events and exhibitions, including live music, dance performances, open mic nights and many more.
The poetry evening will take place at Bar des Arts on Tuesday, December 11 from 7.30pm until 10.30pm.
