With the GCSE and
A-level results just having been received across the country it's
worth taking a little time and looking at how well our local schools
have done.
According to the
Government League Tables for last year Guildford High School and
Tormead School both managed to get five or more A* to C grades at
GCSE for 100% of their students in 2009, with St Catherine's School
and the Royal Grammar School coming in close behind with 99%.
Guildford County School, George Abbott School, King's College and St
Peter's all came in at over 80%.
Have they managed to
improve or have their standards dropped?
Students from Guildford
High School achieved among the highest GCSE results in the UK with
over 91% achieving A or A*, 60% being A*.
The Royal Grammar
School was even more impressive with 94% achieving A or A*, 67% being
A*.
Pupils at St
Catherine's School got 80% and 47% respectively and so we can safely
say that Guildford is still one of the best places in the country to
educate your children whether you are using the state school system or sending them to independent schools. Are your children at these schools? Does the
day to day experience reflect the results?
Why do you think it is
that we seem to be performing so much better than everyone else?
