    The University of Surrey in Guildford has become one of the big losers in the rising of tuition fees after it emerged that applications have fallen by just over 20%. New figures by UCAS, revealed today (30th Jan) show that 13,517 students have applied for enrolment in autumn 2012 – a fall of 21.5%. This is compared to 16,199 students in 2011.     Olly Murs has been announced as the first headliner of Guilfest 2012 as information about this year's festival have been unveiled.     New figures on unemployment benefit claimants were released today by the Office for National Statistics and, as far as Guildord is concerned, it makes for encouraging reading. Whilst there are currently 1,220 people on benefits (1.8% of the town), that is a drop of 1.4% year-on-year. 2.3% of men in Guildford are on benefits compared 1.2% of women in the constituency.
