A change in car parking fees has been

announced but these new fees will not come into effect until April.

“We review our parking fees every

year and considered a number of options, but chose to make the 10p

per hour increase on Monday to Saturday only,” explained Leader of

the Council, Cllr Tony Rooth.

“We also only made one change to our

existing Sunday charging, in North Street. Regular customers of our

pay on foot car parks will also be able to pay using new pre-paid

cards offering a 10% discount, which effectively offsets the

increases in April.

“The Council's car parks provide a

vital service for residents, visitors and local businesses. Our

parking fees are good value - even with the increase it is still

cheaper to park in Guildford than most comparable towns and shopping

centres.”

These changes also mean that there will

also be a VAT freeze until the new charges come into effect.

All of these changes were agreed to by

the Guildford Borough Council's Executive last Thursday (6th

January).

Other changes approved included

on-going improvement works to some of the car parks near the town

centre. £1 million has been put aside to improve facilities.

More information about the parking

changes can be found at the Guildford Borough Council's website.
