If you've been a train commuter from

Guildford in the last week or so, you'll have probably experienced

more than your fair share of delays. In the last two weeks many

incidents, nearly all of them fatalities, has caused havoc among

regular users.

A number of fatalities on South West

Lines tracks have left commuters either stranded with no information

or updates on the developing situation or delayed by up to an hour

and a half.

Problems started on Monday 28th March

with a fatality reported in the south London area causing some

disruption. On Thursday 31st March a fatality in Wimbledon late in

the afternoon disrupted the network severely with some customers in

areas such as Ash waiting on the platform for up two an

hour-and-a-half for a train in spots.

The following day, 1st April, another

incident meant that the Portsmouth line, which goes through the town

reguarly, was faced with more disruption. Yesterday, 6th April,

another fatality in Surbiton meant that the station in outer London

was closed for an hour and a half, providing a catalogue of delays in

the process.

Were you affected by any of these

delays? Was it a cause of major frustration? Is there anything South

West Trains could do to improve their service in events such as this?

Please remember item 5(ii) of the Press Complaints Commission's code of conduct for editors : "when reporting suicide, care should be taken to avoid excessive detail about the method used."

This is because research has established that publicity for suicides can trigger copycat actions, as occurred (for example) with the Bridgend teenagers.
